The Phoenix Comicon 2010 Experience – The DreamStalker Films Perspective
by Herr Direktor on Jun.01, 2010, under Promotions/Events
First of all, I have to say a HUGE Thanks to everyone for their support of our fledgling company this last weekend at the Phoenix Comicon! Especially to Shannon and Alanta for coming out and working the booth with us (and alone when Derek and I were at the screening or getting our geek on with Stan Lee) for the entire Con. Thanks also need to be said to Jason, Dori, and Everett for hanging out on the last day and making it so all the tons of stuff we had left we could get back to the truck in one trip.
So here’s the rundown… Friday was our first day at the table. The day was a bit slow as far as selling product, but we made some film connections and spread the word about DreamStalker Films. Shortly after we had opened the DSF Booth, our short film, “The Family That Decays Together…” premiered at the Film Festival during the local films block. Derek and I were there to hear the audience reaction. We heard laughs and “ahhh”s in all the right places, so seems to have gone over well.
Saturday was a much busier day at the whole Con, and our booth was no exception. We sold more DreamStalker Films Shorts Vol. I DVDs this day than any other at the Con. Thanks to Matt showing up we were also finally able to sell our first Car Decal.
Sunday, was pretty busy still at the Con, most likely due to Stan “The Man” Lee being on hand for autographs and pictures that day. We sold some more DVDs, despite not being able to offer any more free Slayer Wars DVDs along with them as our supply had run out. Also, thanks to some supportive family members and Jason coming down we were able to sell some more decals as well as several T-Shirts. Additionally, we had some added products this day thanks to Dori Perry: DSF Dice Bags! We were able to sell one of these nifty products, too!
On Sunday, Derek and I had the honor of getting our picture taken with Stan Lee. Check out us sporting our DSF shirts with “The Man” and a copy of our DVD we gave him.
Overall, we sold 35 DreamStalker Films Shorts Vol I DVDs, 3 T-Shirts, 4 Decals, and 1 Dice Bag. Not too shabby for a pretty much unknown independent film company. More importantly, we spread the word and made a bunch of new contacts for potential fans, filmmakers, and actors.
For everyone that were not able to make it out to the Con or didn’t have any money at the time, there are plenty of DreamStalker Films products left. Looking to the future, we will have these items available by PayPal on this site, but for now, if you’re interested in a DVD, T-Shirt, Decal, or Dice Bag, contact us at dreamstalkerfilms@gmail.com. If you’re a veteran DreamStalker Films cast/crew member, ask about our discount especially for you!
Stay tuned for the next post with an update on Slayer Wars 3.
I will wrap this post (finally, a week after the PCC) with this picture:
‘Nuff Said!

After you stop by the DreamStalker Films table be sure to wonder over to table T70 and check out Paleocomics by artist Zach Reddy. Zach designed and created our website as well as upgrading all of our DreamStalker Films logos from my hand drawn designs to the professional ones we use today. He’s an incredibly talented artist and will be selling his work.
Be sure to stop by the Probed: Signals table at T113. Probed: Signals is an AZ created webseries by Joel Cranson. Be sure to check it out, these are some really talented people, and they too will be selling DVDs (which will be one of my first purchases at this event).
This will be our last post before the event, but be sure to continue to come back as we may be adding posts and pictures while at the Con. Hope to see you all there!
Phoenix Comicon Update and Slayer Wars 3 Day 12 & 13
by Herr Direktor on May.05, 2010, under Film News, Site Updates
Welcome back everyone! It’s been quite awhile since I’ve had any updates here so we could get everything prepared for the Phoenix 2010 Comicon May 27-30. Here are the DreamStalker Films’ details on the event.
Firstly, DSF will have a table for the entire Comicon, located at the Phoenix Convention Center in the Vendor Room, table T120 (look for the DreamStalker Films banner). We’ll be showing the DreamStalker Films DVD Reel with all of our completed films, trailers, and special features on a small T.V. We will be selling copies of the DreamStalker Films Shorts Vol. I DVD ($5 each), DSF logo T-Shirts ($20 each for S, M, L, XL, or XXL -Small pictured left as modeled by Shannon Griffith and the logo above), and DreamStalker Films logo car decals ($5 each, pictured below). Additionally, the first 10 people to buy any item will receive a free copy of the original Slayer Wars: Uber-Special Edition. Don’t worry if you’re not one of the ten, everyone else that buys anything will receive a ticket for our prize drawing that will be on the last day of the Comicon when we’ll be giving away another ten copies of Slayer Wars!
While you’re there sign up for one (or all) of our e-mailing lists so you can keep up to date on everything DreamStalker Films is up to and volunteer to help out with upcoming projects!
Secondly, on Friday, May 28th, at 1:43 pm, DreamStalker Films’ most recent film, “The Family That Decays Together…” will premiere at the Phoenix Comicon Film Festival! Be sure to check it out, and then, feel free to stop by the DSF Table and talk to the creators about it (and pick up your own copy of the film on the DreamStalker Films Shorts Vol I DVD
)
Finally, a Slayer Wars 3 update:
Last weekend we had two more nights of shooting on Slayer Wars 3 that went extremely well. We got more great footage for the Zombie Onslaught of the VSJ HQ Scene and it’s really coming together now. I’d like to thank everyone who came to be extras and help out this weekend (especially the whole Noel clan, Morgan, and Matt who made up our zombie cast this weekend and made it easy for me to fill up each shot with zombies).
Our next shoot will be on Sunday, May 16th, 7PM. This will be a short shoot (I hope to wrap by 9) that will allow us to get the last shots we need with Jake, which are only a few but at least one is going to be rather difficult and is important to get right as it’s the whole reason I wrote the scene. So, any of our principle actors that can show I hope to see you there, and we’ll also need at least a few zombies, so anyone else that can come would be appreciated, whether they have played another role in the film yet or not.
The shoot after that is planned for the morning of Saturday, June 5th, which we’ll be filming the scene that will be at the very end of the film. Tentatively I am thinking of also filming that evening in what would likely be the final night for the Zombie Onslaught scene.
Alright, that’s all for now (isn’t that enough?)…

A Taste of Things to Come…
by Herr Direktor on Apr.03, 2010, under Film News
Here it is a sneak peak at the first DreamStalker Films DVD that will be for sale at this year’s Phoenix Comicon. The Short Film Collection includes “Dreamscape Excursion,” “Game of Stamina,” “Down and Out,” “PSA: Don’t Drive and Text,” and “The Family That Decays Together…“ Each film also has a gag reel or making of featurette and a behind the scenes slide show. Additionally, there is an early look at all of the upcoming DreamStalker Films shorts and a short film from Black Shard Studios. The DVDs will be sold exclusively (initially) at the Phoenix Comicon May 28-30 for the low price of five dollars each. We will have a limited supply available, so be sure to come by early and pick one up.
More to come soon on what else we’ll be selling at the Comicon, so be sure to check back here often for updates.
“The Family That Decays Together…” Is Live!
by Herr Direktor on Feb.26, 2010, under Film News, Site Updates
Welcome back returning DSF fans, and a hearty hello to any new visitors to dreamstalkerfilms.com! If you are new to the site, please be sure to check out the FILMS link above and take a look at some of our completed short films before you leave (and come back often). For our regular visitors we have something new to watch… A brand new short film! “The Family That Decays Together…” was shot and completed over President’s Day/Valentine’s Day weekend for A3F’s Annual 48 Hour Film Competition. Unfortunately, our film fell in the bottom and didn’t even get an honorable online mention. However, I still think this is one of the better short films we have put together so far, and certainly the best we have done in 48 hours.
Click here to view the film or for more details on the production of the film.
For more behind the scenes pictures, check out the Facebook album for this film here.
Upcoming Events:
More filming for the final chapter of the Slayer Wars Trilogy picks up this weekend with Day 11. This should be our first glimpse of zombies for the film. Still plenty more to do on this project (as I have seen in my immense shot list for the rest of the film) so watch for more updates coming throughout the year.
I am focusing strongly on the Phoenix Comicon coming up at the end of May. In the next few days I should have a special feature for the DreamStalker Films Short Film Collection Volume 1 DVD completed. This will be a short preview of the films to come from DSF. The DVD will be available for a small fee at the Comicon. For certain it will include “Dreamscape Excursion,” “Game of Stamina,” “Down and Out,” “PSA: Don’t Drive and Text,” and “The Family That Decays Together…” In addition to the preview special feature I’d like to get a gag reel assembled for it, and possibly some short films from some friends who’d also like to help get their names out there, but no promises.
The original Slayer Wars will be available for free on DVD at the Comicon on either a first come/first serve basis or we’ll be raffling them off as we will have a limited supply.
More to come on the Comicon as it develops. Hopefully we’ll have more swag to give away as well as shirts and decals to sell.
It’s gearing up to be a pretty hectic few months coming up, so come back often to read more updates on the happenings of DreamStalker Films.
2009: A Year in Review & 2010: Plans For the Year
by Herr Direktor on Feb.04, 2010, under Uncategorized
Hey everyone, as promised on my last post here is a quick year in review for 2009 and a rundown on what’s to come for 2010:
- January 14th, 2009: “Slayer Wars: Episode LVII: The Vampyre Strikes Back” finally completed after nearly 10 years. Thanks to Scott Kos, this Uber-Special Edition cut had a brand new original score.
- January 23rd, 2009: “Slayer Wars: Episode LVII: The Vampyre Strikes Back: Uber Special Edition” premieres at Phoenix Comicon. Also, the first teaser trailer for “Slayer Wars 2” (“Slayer Wars: Episode LVIII: Revenge of the Vampyre-Slaying Jedi”) premiered. This was created with only three and a half days of shooting on “Slayer Wars 2.”
- 27 days of shooting on “Slayer Wars 2” in 2009. September 11, 2009 was the final night shooting “Slayer Wars 2.”
- September 20, 2009: “Slayer Wars 3” Filming commences.
- October 9th-11th : Kick-Off for A3F One Shot 48hr Film Contest, Filming next day, Editing. The outcome was “Down and Out.”
- October 21st: Public Screening of One-Shot
- October 24th – First screening of the first cut of Slayer Wars 2.
- 8 Total days of shooting on Slayer Wars 3 in 2009.
- Dec 12th-13th Shooting on “PSA: Don’t Drive & Text”
- Full Completion on PSA Jan 1st 2010.
2010
- First half of 2010 – “Slayer Wars 2”: Second Trailer.
- January 2010: “Slayer Wars 3” Day 9 and 10. Slayer Wars 3 production is to be completed over the course of this year. Judging by the number of pages for the script and how long Slayer Wars 2 took, I expect at least another 25-35 days of shooting, so it will likely be between October and December when we finally wrap.
- February 12-14, 2010: 48 Hour A3F Film Challenge. We’ll be competing in another 48 hour film competition, let us know if you’ll be available to help this weekend.
- May 27-30, 2010: Phoenix Comicon 2010- DreamStalker Films will have a table for screening all of our films. We intend to be selling a DreamStalker Films DVD, T-Shirts, and Decals. We should have some freebies to give away and hopefully some first looks at our films in progress.
Additional goals:
- Completion of “Cubicell.”
- Shooting of a ten minute short film version of “Reunion.”
- Finishing the Look Out For That Snake Productions film, “Schoolyard Ninjas.” This was a 16mm Film shot many years ago that is in my possession and I’ll be putting it together finally.
- Finishing new saber effects for Out For That Snake Productions film, “Fall of the Sith,” another 16mm shot a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I’ll be re-cutting this one and Scott Kos will be putting together a new score for it as well (which will likely be heard in Slayer Wars 2 as well).
