Description:
DSF’s third A3F 48 hour Film Challenge submittal was the most difficult to date. Feburary 18-20th, 2011.
Competition Guidelines:
- 3-5 minutes in length
- Include the prop: Envelope
- Include the line: “I hope this works”
- Have the theme: Change of Heart
The guidelines were revealed at about 7:30pm on February 18th and we had until February 20th at 7:oo PM to turn the film in to A3F in Phoenix.
Joe, Derek, Shannon, Laura, and Alanta got together and brainstormed ideas for awhile after. After several suggestions a theme about Season Fairies was agreed upon.
Joe went off to write and had a workable script by the next morning. It took a long time to get started due to needing to get numerous props assembled, a set of fairy wings made, and a location found.
Then, it started raining. And it pretty much drizzled for most of the day. Using a rain protector for the primary camera, umbrellas, and makeshift plastic bags to protect the B camera, the film eventually got shot. Lighting was a big issue as well as sound. Due to the location and the weather, nearly all of the audio was unusable.
As Joe edited and did post-production special effects, Scott Kos composed original music having not seen anything from the film, and Derek went on to recording all replacement dialogue was needed.
Due to the amount of post-production that needed to be done, all visual effects were completed but only about half of the dialogue replacement was edited into the film.
The film was on disc and delivered to A3F by 6:30pm as completed as was possible. The film did not make the top 20 films submitted into the competition. The film as it is here on this site is it’s completed form with the final dialogue replacements and additional sound effects.
